Problem

EthoVision XT 13 (or earlier) stops launching after a Windows update, displaying a system error such as 'TextManageru-1-111.dll was not found' or similar missing DLL errors.

Details

Windows updates can remove or replace system components that older EthoVision versions depend on, particularly legacy DLLs associated with older Visual C++ runtimes or Noldus-specific components. EthoVision versions older than XT 17 are no longer supported by Noldus. Reinstalling the old version may not resolve the issue if the required DLL is no longer available in the updated Windows environment. Affected versions: EthoVision XT 13 and earlier.

Solution

1. Note that EthoVision versions older than XT 17 are end-of-life and no longer supported by Noldus — a full resolution cannot be guaranteed.
2. If the error began after a Windows update, the update likely removed a system DLL that the old EthoVision version required.
3. Attempt to reinstall EthoVision XT 13 (or the installed old version) — during reinstall, missing dependencies may be restored.
4. If reinstallation does not help, uninstall EthoVision and all Noldus-related dependencies (Visual C++ runtimes, Sentinel/HASP drivers, etc.) and perform a clean reinstall.
5. If the software still fails to launch, consider upgrading to a supported version (XT 17 or later). Contact Noldus to discuss upgrade options and license compatibility.
