EthoVision XT Older Versions Not Compatible with Windows 11 – Dongle-Licensed Installations
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user wants to install an older version of EthoVision XT (e.g., XT 14) on a Windows 11 machine using an existing USB hardware dongle, and wants to know if this is supported.
Details
EthoVision XT 14 and earlier versions are not tested or guaranteed to work on Windows 11. While the USB dongle hardware itself may function on Windows 11 after driver installation, the EthoVision software itself may have compatibility issues with the Windows 11 environment. EthoVision XT 17 and later have been tested on Windows 10; Windows 11 compatibility is confirmed for more recent versions. The existing dongle license may be upgradeable to a newer version.
Solution
1. EthoVision XT 14 is not recommended for installation on Windows 11 — compatibility is not guaranteed and the installation may fail or be unstable.
2. If you need to continue using your existing dongle license, contact Noldus to discuss upgrading the dongle to a supported version (XT 17 or later) that has been tested on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
3. If remaining on Windows 10 is an option, EthoVision XT 14 may continue to function on that OS (though it is still end-of-life and unsupported).
4. For Windows 11, use EthoVision XT 17 or later — these versions are compatible with Windows 11 and the dongle can be upgraded accordingly.
5. Refer to the articles on upgrading a dongle license to EthoVision XT 19 and on EthoVision compatibility with Windows 11 for further guidance.
