Exporting Manual Scoring Data from EthoVision XT
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
Users cannot find how to export manual scoring results (behavioral events logged during or after video playback) separately from tracking/raw data, or exports fail/produce empty files.
Details
Applies to EthoVision XT versions with the Manual Scoring module. Users may attempt to export via the standard Statistics export and find no manual scoring data, or they may not know where the manual scoring tab appears in the exported Excel file. Distinct from the existing 'Large Raw Data Export Failures' article, which covers crashes during large raw-data exports.
Solution
**Option 1 – Export the full Manual Scoring Log (all trials at once):**
1. Go to **Analysis > Export > Raw Data**.
2. In the export options, tick **Manual scoring log** only and untick all track/trajectory data to keep the file manageable.
3. Select output format: **Excel (.xlsx)** or **Text (.csv)**.
4. Click **Start Export**.
5. In the resulting Excel file, manual scoring events appear on a dedicated tab labelled **'Manual scoring – [arena name]'**.
**Option 2 – Export Statistics including manual scoring-derived variables:**
1. Ensure your Analysis Profile includes manual scoring events as variables (e.g., frequency, duration of each scored behavior).
2. Go to **Analysis > Statistics** and select the relevant trials and Analysis Profile.
3. Export to Excel using **File > Export > Statistics**.
**If the export fails or produces an empty file:**
- Confirm that manual scoring was actually saved (play back a trial and check that events appear in the Manual Scoring timeline).
- Try exporting a smaller subset of trials first to rule out a size-related crash (see also: Large Raw Data Export Failures KB article).
- Ensure the Analysis Profile references the correct arena and that zone/behavior names match those used during scoring.
