Rotating Video Orientation for FaceReader Analysis
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A video imported into FaceReader is displayed or analyzed in the wrong orientation (e.g., rotated 90°), causing face detection to fail or produce poor results.
Details
FaceReader has a per-analysis image rotation setting that can correct video orientation. There is also a global default setting for future analyses. Changing the default does not retroactively fix already-created analyses. Observed in FaceReader 10.
Solution
To fix rotation for an existing analysis:
1. Open the analysis in FaceReader.
2. Click Settings at the bottom of the analysis screen.
3. Click the pencil/edit icon next to the image-rotation setting.
4. Select the correct rotation (e.g., 90°, 180°, 270°) to match the video's intended orientation.
5. Re-run the analysis after adjusting the rotation.
To set a default rotation for all future analyses:
1. Go to File > Settings > Default Analysis Settings.
2. Adjust the image rotation value to the desired default.
3. Note: this default only applies to newly created analyses; existing analyses must be corrected individually as described above.
