Camera Timestamp Does Not Match System Clock in MediaRecorder
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
The timestamp displayed on the camera feed or in recorded video does not match the current Windows system time.
Details
The timestamp overlaid on the video feed originates from the camera's own internal clock, not from the MediaRecorder software or the host PC. Adjusting time settings in Windows or MediaRecorder has no effect on the camera's timestamp. Affects all IP camera models used with MediaRecorder.
Solution
1. Identify the IP address of the camera whose timestamp is incorrect (visible in MediaRecorder's camera list or settings).
2. Open a web browser on the MediaRecorder PC and navigate to the camera's IP address.
3. Log in to the camera's web interface using the camera's admin credentials.
4. Navigate to the Date/Time or System Time settings (location varies by camera brand/model; commonly under System → Date & Time or Setup → System → Time).
5. Set the correct date, time, and timezone. Optionally configure NTP synchronisation to a reliable time server to prevent future drift.
6. Save the settings and return to MediaRecorder.
7. Verify the timestamp on the camera feed now matches the expected time.
