MediaRecorder and Observer Compatibility with Windows 11
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
Users or IT staff are uncertain whether MediaRecorder and/or Observer are compatible with Windows 11 before upgrading from Windows 10.
Details
Institutional IT security policies may require upgrading PCs from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Users running MediaRecorder and Observer need to confirm software compatibility before proceeding with the OS upgrade to avoid disrupting research workflows. Confirmed compatibility: MediaRecorder 6 and Observer 17 are compatible with Windows 11.
Solution
1. Confirm the versions of MediaRecorder and Observer currently installed (Help → About in each application).
2. MediaRecorder 6 and Observer 17 are confirmed compatible with Windows 11.
3. If running an older version of either application, contact Noldus Support to confirm compatibility of that specific version with Windows 11, or request an upgrade.
4. Before upgrading the OS, back up all MediaRecorder and Observer data, recordings, and project files.
5. Also back up or note your license key(s) so you can re-activate after the OS upgrade if needed.
6. Proceed with the Windows 11 upgrade via your IT department.
7. After the upgrade, launch MediaRecorder and Observer to confirm normal operation. Re-activate licenses if prompted.
