No Audio Detected from Axis Camera — 5V Phantom Power Not Enabled
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
MediaRecorder detects an Axis camera (e.g., Axis P3245-E or similar) but audio is missing or not detected, even though a microphone is connected.
Details
Certain Axis cameras require 5V phantom power to be enabled on the audio input before a connected microphone will function. Without this setting, audio input is not recognised by the camera and therefore not available in MediaRecorder. Confirmed on Axis 5526-E; may affect other Axis camera models with external microphone inputs.
Solution
1. Open a web browser and navigate to the camera's IP address to access its web interface.
2. Log in with the camera's credentials.
3. Navigate to Audio settings (typically under Settings → Audio or Setup → Audio).
4. Locate the microphone/input power setting and enable '5V' or 'Phantom Power' for the audio input.
5. Save the settings.
6. Return to MediaRecorder and verify that audio is now detected on the camera feed.
7. Perform a test recording and confirm audio is present in the output file.
