Interval definition for point events in Observer XT Data Profile produces incomplete time-bin results
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
When using a Data Profile in Observer XT to export time-binned data around a point event, the behavior column appears for only some intervals and not all expected bins are generated.
Details
Affects Observer XT users working with point events and post-event interval bins in the Data Profile (e.g., generating 50 ms windows around a point event). The issue arises when the Stop criterion for post-event bins is set relative to 'before end of' or 'before start of' the event rather than 'after start of,' which is the correct setting for point events (which have no duration).
Solution
1. Open the Data Profile that defines your time bins around the point event.
2. Locate the interval definition for the point event in question.
3. Check the Stop interval setting. For point events, the Stop criterion must be set to 'after start of [event]' — not 'before end of' or 'before start of,' as point events have no end/duration to reference.
4. Change the Stop interval to 'after start of [event name]' with the desired time offset (e.g., +50 ms, +100 ms, etc. for consecutive bins).
5. Re-run the Data Profile. The consecutive time-bin windows around the point event should now generate correctly and the behavior column should populate for all intervals.
