Observer XT video playback issue: delayed frame-step effect with high frame-rate videos
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
When stepping through video frames or playing back full HD 60 fps video files in Observer XT 17, a noticeable delayed frame-step effect occurs, making accurate coding difficult.
Details
The issue is reproducible with full HD (1080p) 60 fps video files in Observer XT 17. The root cause is the LeadTools decoding library used in Observer XT 17, which does not handle high frame-rate video as well as the MainConcept library used in earlier versions. This is distinct from general freezing/pixelation issues.
Solution
1. If accurate frame-by-frame coding of high frame-rate (60 fps) video is required, use Observer XT version 14.2, which uses the MainConcept video decoding library and does not exhibit this behaviour.
2. Alternatively, re-encode your 60 fps videos to a lower frame rate (e.g., 30 fps) before importing them into Observer XT 17, which may resolve the delayed frame-step effect.
3. Contact Noldus support to check whether a newer release of Observer XT has addressed this LeadTools issue.
