Select ONVIF Devices

ONVIF Credentials

If you obtained cameras from Noldus IT, the ONVIF user name is root and the ONVIF password is Noldus (or in some cases, use the default password provided by Noldus IT).

Procedure

1. Click Get device properties.
2. The Quality field appears with the default frame rate and resolution of the camera.
3. Optionally, click Edit and select another frame rate or resolution. Click Update when done. The Quality field in the Edit IP Video device window now shows the new frame rate and resolution.

Important: Select the same frame rate for all cameras in one location. If you record composite sessions, select the same frame rate for all cameras that will be used in those sessions. We recommend using the same frame rate for all cameras in your Viso system. If this is not possible, create a separate location for the camera with a different frame rate.

4. If your camera has PTZ control, check whether pan and tilt works correctly. See Check Camera Pan and Tilt. If the camera moves in the opposite direction of your mouse pointer, select the checkbox Flip pan axis (horizontal movement) or Flip tilt axis (vertical movement), or both. These options are not shown if the camera has no PTZ control.
5. Repeat the procedure for other ONVIF cameras in the location.
6. Click OK and continue with Select Audio Devices.

Notes

• If you bought cameras yourself, see Set Camera IP Address to set the camera user name and password, and see Create ONVIF User Name and Password for the procedure to create an ONVIF user name and password. Use the same user name and password for the camera as for the ONVIF user. Otherwise the push-to-talk option for Axis cameras will not work and Viso will ask for a password when selecting the camera.
• We tested a maximum camera resolution of 1280 x 800 together with a maximum frame rate of 25 fps for 16 cameras. With this frame rate and resolution, the network traffic for 16 cameras to and from the Viso Recorder is approximately 160 Mb/s (5 Mb/s per camera). If you increase the resolution or frame rate, the traffic may become too high for the network and the hard disk storage. For a 1 Gb/s network, it is recommended that traffic does not exceed 350 Mb/s.
• The name you enter will appear in the Video device column. If you do not add a name, the Video device column will display the camera IP address.

Select Non-ONVIF Devices

Aim

To select devices that do not support ONVIF Profile S. This is the case for the Epiphan Pearl Nano and Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster. It may also be the case for cameras that are not supported with Viso.

Prerequisites

• Your user role allows location setup (Technician).
• You added a location. See Add Locations.
• You installed your device. See Settings for the Epiphan Pearl Nano or Settings for the Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster. For other non-ONVIF devices, see IP Camera Settings for the settings needed for Viso and consult the camera manual for comparable settings.

Procedure

1. In the Edit Video Device window, optionally enter a name for your camera, for example Overview camera.
2. Enter the IP address of the camera and leave the default port 554. Consult your system administrator if this port is in use by another program.
3. Select Non-ONVIF as the Device Type.
4. Look up in the manual of your device where the video files can be accessed via the RTSP communication protocol. For the Epiphan Pearl Nano and the Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster, this path is: rtsp://96377.local:554/stream.sdp
5. Enter the path from the slash after the connection information in the Connection string field. Enter /stream.sdp.
6. Click OK. The Add Location window now shows the device with the symbol — in the Quality field.
7. Optionally, open the camera in a browser to pan, tilt, or zoom (see Access Camera Settings) or to change the frame rate or resolution. Important: Log out from the camera in the browser before you start recording.
8. Repeat the procedure for other non-ONVIF devices in the location.
9. Click OK and continue with Select Audio Devices.
