Set Up Viso
The Steps to Set Up Viso
To set everything up so that session recording can start.
Prerequisite: Your Viso system has been set up and the Viso components are installed. See Appendices A-F for the procedures.
Carry out the following steps:
- Make sure that the hardware key is inserted in the Viso Services computer.
Important: Do not insert the hardware key in the Viso Services computer before Viso Services is installed completely. If Viso Viewer was started before the hardware key was in the Viso Services computer, close Viso Viewer, insert the hardware key, and restart Viso Viewer.
- Add users.
- Add and edit departments.
- Add locations.
- Select the cameras and their settings:
- Select ONVIF cameras.
- Select Non-ONVIF devices, like the Epiphan Pearl Nano and Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster.
- Select audio devices.
- Optionally, select a push-to-talk microphone to speak to the people in the locations through the camera speakers.
- If you have cameras that can Pan, Tilt, and Zoom, check camera Pan and Tilt.
- Optionally, set up the Viso Web App.
- Test the setup.
- Optionally, change terminology — choose your own words for terms in the interface like Location and Session.
- Optionally, enable multiple-location recording — the option to select multiple locations simultaneously for session recording.
- Optionally, enable default ONVIF camera authentication — automatically filling the ONVIF user name and password.
- Optionally, enable the Viso WebApp.
- Optionally, change work week and working day — adjust the work days and working hours in the Scheduler. To schedule sessions, you must have the Scheduler Module.
- Optionally, enable logging of activities in an audit log — enable logging of the activities of the users working with the Viso system.
- Optionally, change the password policy.
- Optionally, define when recordings and videos are deleted.
Add Users
Specify who may use Viso and with what rights.
Prerequisites: All computers, cameras, and other hardware are connected and configured, and all Viso components are installed. See Appendices A-F.
- Open Viso Viewer.
- Log in with the Setup account, or, if a Technician account was created for you, log in with that account. Alternatively, you can log in as Administrator to add users to a certain department. The login for the default Setup account is supplied by Noldus IT.
- If your Viso network is not connected to the domain, continue with step 9. If it is, enable import of domain users using a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and continue with the next step.
- Click Settings in the Dashboard. The LDAP Connection Settings window appears.
- If the Viso Viewer computer is in the domain, press Detect Settings. The details of your domain should appear. If not, enter the domain name and press Detect Settings again. If the details still do not appear, enter them manually. If needed, ask your system administrator for details. The following settings are required:
- Domain — The name of your work domain.
- Base DN — The top-level Distinguished Name (DN) of your LDAP directory. Use this field to search for users in a subset of the users in your domain. For example, enter DC=Students to search for users in the Student group only.
- LDAP Address — The computer name or IP address of the LDAP server.
- LDAP Port — The port used to connect Viso Services with the LDAP server.
- If you are not logged in to the domain on your Viso Viewer computer, enter your domain user name and password. If you are already logged in to the domain, skip this step.
- Click Test Connection. If the connection with your domain is established, the text Connection Successful appears.
- Click OK.
- Click the menu button and choose User Management.
- Click Add User and choose either Local User to enter users manually, or Domain User to select them from the domain.
- Domain User — Enter the domain first name, last name, or user name of the user you want to add. If there are many users in your domain, select Limit Search Results To and enter a number, then click Search. Select the user and choose a user role from the list. Click Add to add the user and select another, or click Close to close the Add Domain User window.
- Local User — Enter the first name, last name, user name, and password. The password must fulfill the password policy requirements (see Change the Password Policy). Optionally, select the department the user belongs to (see Add and Edit Departments). Also select a user role from the list (see Rights per User Account for the rights per user account type).
Notes:
- Change the password of the Setup account the first time you log in. To do so, choose Viso Setup > Change Password. The password must fulfill the password policy requirements (see Change the Password Policy).
- See also Synchronize with Domain.
- You cannot add extra Setup accounts.
- If connection with the domain fails, enter the correct connection settings and try again. If connection continues to fail, review the settings in the switch that connects the Viso network to the domain.
- If you did not connect Viso to your domain, you can only enter local users. You cannot choose Domain Users in step 10.
- Each user may be assigned to a single department. For Technicians, the department button is inactive, as Technicians are able to manage any department in the system.
Add and Edit Departments
Divide your Viso locations and assign them to departments of your school, university, or institute. Users that belong to a certain department can be linked to that Viso department. For instance, a school may have purchased a Viso system to train students in nursing and students studying skin therapy. By assigning each student to one of the two Viso departments, they have access to the locations that belong to their department but not to the locations of the other department. Technicians have access to all locations.
Prerequisite: Your user role allows adding departments (Technician).
- Open Viso Viewer and log in with the user role Technician.
- From the menu, select Settings > User Management > Department.
- To create a new department, click Add Department and go to step 4. To edit an existing department, click the editing icon in its row and go to step 6.
- The Add Department window opens. If you have already added users to Viso, only users that have not yet been assigned to a department are shown. Enter a name at Department Name and use the checkboxes next to user names to assign users to the new department. For multiple selection, use the Ctrl or Shift key in the usual way, then press the Space key to change the checkbox status of all selected users.
- To store the video recordings of the selected department, browse to a shared network folder at File Location. The selected folder must have at least 2 GB of free disk space. When finished defining the new department, click Close.
- If you clicked the editing icon, the Edit Department window opens. You will see the name of the selected department, the shared network folder where video recordings are stored, the names of users belonging to the department, and the names of users you can add to it. You are free to change any of these. For details, see steps 4 and 5 above.
Add Locations
Create locations. A location is an area with cameras and, optionally, microphones. It can be, for example, an observation lab, a usability test room, a hospital room, or a stable.
Prerequisite: Your user role allows location setup (Technician).
- Make sure that the hardware key is inserted in the Viso Services computer.
- Open Viso Viewer.
- Log in with the user role Technician.
- Open the Locations panel.
- Click Edit Locations.
- Optionally, add or change the description of a Viso Recorder computer by clicking the pencil button in its row and entering text in the Description field.
- Click the + button in the row of the computer you want to set up.
- Enter a location name.
- If you have defined departments, select which department has access to the location. See Add and Edit Departments for more information.
- Click the pencil button to select a video device, then select the cameras by choosing the option that applies:
- Select ONVIF cameras.
- Select Non-ONVIF devices, like the Epiphan Pearl Nano and Epiphan VGADVI Broadcaster.
Select ONVIF Cameras
Select camera types that support ONVIF Profile S. This applies to all cameras supported with Viso.
Prerequisites:
- You have installed the cameras. See IP Camera Settings.
- Your user role allows location setup (Technician).
- You have added a location. See Add Locations.
- Select from the list or enter the IP address of the camera and leave the default port 554. Consult your system administrator if this port is in use by another program. If you configured a default user name and password for your cameras, those fields will be filled automatically and you can immediately go to step 5. See Enable Default ONVIF Camera Authentication for how to set up default values.
- In the Edit Video Device window, optionally enter a name for your camera, for example, Overview Camera. The default name will be the same as the IP address.
- Select ONVIF as the device type (this is the default).
- Enter the ONVIF user name and ONVIF password for your camera if they were not filled automatically.
