Viso 12 Setup - Set Up Viso - Set Up the Viso Web App
Last updated: Jul 28, 2026
Set Up the Viso Web App
Aim
To configure the system so that recording can be started and stopped with an Internet browser. The browser can run on a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer at a remote location that is connected to the company's network. You can also use a VPN connection via a stable network.
Procedure
- Connect a wireless router to the switch in the Viso network. This enables a WiFi connection to the Viso network.
- Configure the router so that it can access the Viso network. Considering the large number of router brands, it is impossible to give a general instruction. Consult your company's system administrator for help.
If everything is set up correctly, you can enter https://<IP address of Viso Services computer>:5001 in your browser and the login page of the Viso Web App should load.
Note: To access the Viso Web App, you can also type the name of the computer with Viso Services in the address field of a browser, followed by the port number: https://<Computer name>:5001. This will only work if name resolution is set up properly on your local network. Otherwise, you can always use the IP address of the Services computer.
Test the Setup
Aim
To test whether the setup of all three Viso components was done correctly.
Procedure
- Log in to Viso Viewer with the Setup account.
- Double-click a location. You should get a preview of all cameras.
Troubleshooting Camera Preview
If there is no preview, do the following:
- Check whether the computer with Viso Services is switched on and whether the cables are connected.
- Check if the Viso Recorder computer is switched on.
- Check whether the Connection settings in Viso Recorder Manager are correct.
- Check whether the Select for Recording checkbox is selected for that location.
- If there is still no preview, check whether the cameras have power and all cables are connected.
- Check whether Viso Services is running on the Viso Services computer. Start Windows Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl, Shift and Esc keys simultaneously. Open the Services tab. The following programs should be present and the Status column should display Running:
- VisoDiagnosticsService
- VisoServices
- VisoWebserver
- RabbitMQ
- Viso Reverse Proxy
- N-Linx Diagnostics Service
- If the Viso Web App was set up, also try to log in with a Technician user and check the preview of a location.
Change Terminology
Aim
To change the terminology in the interface, for example to change Location and Session to Rooms and Observation, or Trainer and Trainee to Teacher and Student. It depends on your license type what you can change.
- Viso Base Module — Location, Session, Department and Group and the user roles Technician, Administrator, Trainer, Trainee.
- Annotation Module — Subject and Marker.
Procedure
- Log in with the Setup account.
- Click on the menu button and choose Settings > Terminology.
- Specify the terminology and click OK.
To Reset the Terminology
- Carry out steps 1 and 2 from the procedure above.
- Click Reset to Default.
Enable Multiple-Location Recording
Aim
To enable the option to open multiple locations simultaneously for session recording. There are two options:
- Separate Sessions Recording — Recording from each location results in a separate session.
- Composite Session Recording — Recording from all locations results in one composite session.
Procedure
- Log in with your Technician account.
- Click Settings > Recording, or click on the menu button and choose Settings > Recording.
- Select the option you require.
Enable Default ONVIF Camera Authentication
Aim
To enable automatically filling the ONVIF user name and password. If all your cameras use the same settings, this setting can reduce the time to set up each camera with the same values.
Procedure
- Log in with the Setup account.
- Click Settings > Recording, or click on the menu button and choose Settings > Recording.
- Check the Use Default IP Camera User Name and Password option.
- Fill in the default user name and password for your cameras.
Enable the Viso Web App
Aim
By default the Viso Web App and services option has been switched on. This option allows you to:
- View your locations live on another computer or mobile device and remotely start and stop recording.
- Play back your sessions on another computer or mobile device.
Procedure
- Log in with the Setup account.
- Choose Settings > Web App, or click the menu button and choose Settings > Web App.
- Select Enable Viso Web App and Services if it is not turned on yet and choose a folder to store the video chunks that are used for streaming.
You can enable picture-by-picture view here, which allows users to see, besides the usual camera streams, a combined stream of all cameras from one location, both when viewing locations and when reviewing sessions. This method is quite resource consuming, so you must make sure your system is capable of delivering this functionality.
Note: If the Enable Viso Web App and Services checkbox is unselected, you can still remotely start and stop recording, but viewing locations and sessions will not work.
