Track Visualization – Gray vs. Coloured Track Lines in EthoVision XT

Last updated: Nov 01, 2026

Problem

In the EthoVision XT track visualization view, some track lines appear gray while others are displayed in darker colours, and the user does not understand why.

Details

Symptoms: After running a DanioVision experiment and reviewing results, the track visualization shows a mix of gray and coloured lines for different time segments or subjects. The user suspects a software error or incomplete tracking. Applies to EthoVision XT track visualization with any DanioVision setup.

Solution

1. Gray lines in the track visualization indicate data points that have been filtered out by the active Data Profile in EthoVision XT. They are not errors — the data exists but is excluded from the current analysis by your filter criteria.
2. To review or change the active Data Profile, go to Analysis → Data Profiles in EthoVision XT.
3. Inspect the filter rules applied (e.g., velocity smoothing, sample exclusion, zone filters). Adjust or disable filters as needed to include the gray segments in your analysis.
4. Coloured lines represent data points that pass all active filter criteria and are included in calculations.
5. If you want to see all data unfiltered, create or select a Data Profile with no filters applied, or temporarily disable filters for visualization purposes.
