EthoVision Installation Fails – Uninstalling Dependencies and Reinstalling Clean
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
EthoVision installation fails with an error such as 'One or more issues caused the setup to fail' or similar, and reinstalling does not resolve it.
Details
Installation failures can result from: a running instance of EthoVision during setup, insufficient Windows user rights (non-administrator account), corrupted previous installation remnants, or residual Noldus dependency applications (Sentinel Runtime, Pylon, other Noldus components) conflicting with the new installation. Affects EthoVision XT across multiple versions including XT 15, 18, and trial/evaluation versions. Note: installing the Sentinel Runtime environment before the main EthoVision installer can prevent some failures.
Solution
1. Close all running instances of EthoVision and any related Noldus applications.
2. Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall EthoVision XT, all entries beginning with 'Noldus', Sentinel Runtime, and Pylon (Basler camera software) if installed.
3. Restart the PC.
4. Log in as a Windows Administrator (not a guest or limited account).
5. If the Sentinel Runtime (HASP driver) is required, install it first before running the EthoVision installer.
6. Run the EthoVision installer as Administrator (right-click > Run as Administrator).
7. If setup still fails, check the installation log file for the specific error and address the indicated issue.
8. Ensure Windows Defender or other antivirus is not blocking the installation; temporarily disable real-time protection if needed and re-enable after installation.
