FaceReader Image Analysis: Each Image Must Be in Its Own Analysis for Individual Results
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user places multiple still images into a single FaceReader analysis expecting per-image results (similar to per-frame video output), but the export only returns averaged data across all images rather than individual results for each image.
Details
When multiple images are added to a single analysis in FaceReader, the software treats the entire set as one unit and outputs averaged data, not discrete per-image results. This behavior differs from video analysis, where each frame is independently sampled. Applies to FaceReader's image/stimulus analysis workflow.
Solution
1. For individual per-image results, each image must be placed in its own separate analysis within the project — do not combine multiple images into a single analysis.
2. To set up many individual image analyses efficiently, use the Project Wizard feature in FaceReader, which allows batch configuration of multiple single-image analyses.
3. After all analyses are complete, export the data as usual; each analysis will then yield its own result set corresponding to the individual image.
4. If averaged results across a set of images are intentionally desired, the current multi-image single-analysis setup is correct for that use case.
