Camera Blocked by Institutional Firewall Causing Camera Feed Issues

Last updated: Oct 29, 2026

Problem

Cameras are not visible or accessible in MediaRecorder or EthoVision XT, even after resolving other software issues such as graphics driver mismatches.

Details

After rolling back the NVIDIA driver to resolve the LeadTools conflict, cameras may still not appear. This can be caused by the institution's network firewall blocking GigE Vision or camera discovery traffic. Affects sites managed by university or hospital IT departments.

Solution

1. After confirming the NVIDIA driver issue is resolved, check whether cameras are still not discovered.
2. Contact your local IT department and inform them that GigE Vision camera discovery uses UDP broadcast on the network and requires specific ports to be open.
3. Ask IT to whitelist or allow traffic from the camera's IP address and the relevant GigE Vision discovery ports on the local network segment.
4. Once the firewall rule is in place, restart MediaRecorder or EthoVision XT and attempt camera discovery again.
5. If the issue persists, isolate the cameras on a dedicated, unmanaged switch connected directly to the PC's camera NIC and bypassing the institutional network.
