Camera Not Detected After Network Switch Port Change
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
An IP camera with correct IP settings is not visible or connectable in MediaRecorder, even though the network configuration appears correct.
Details
The camera's IP address does not appear in MediaRecorder despite correct IP configuration. Swapping the network switch port resolved the issue, though the root cause (faulty or misconfigured switch port) was not definitively confirmed. Affects any IP-based camera connected via a managed or unmanaged network switch.
Solution
1. Verify the camera's IP settings are correct using the manufacturer's utility (e.g., Axis IP Utility).
2. Open a web browser and attempt to reach the camera's IP address directly to confirm it is reachable on the network.
3. If the camera is unreachable, try moving the camera's Ethernet cable to a different port on the network switch.
4. After switching ports, perform a factory reset of the camera's IP address if it still does not appear.
5. Restart MediaRecorder and scan for cameras again.
6. If the camera is detected on the new port, the original switch port may be faulty — contact your network/IT administrator to investigate the switch port.
