Hardware USB Dongle Not Detected by MediaRecorder
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
MediaRecorder displays a message that no hardware key (USB dongle) is detected, even though the dongle is physically plugged into the computer.
Details
Affects users with hardware-based (dongle) license keys for MediaRecorder. The dongle may be present and visible in Windows Device Manager but not recognized by the software. Typically caused by a missing or corrupted hardware key driver rather than a faulty dongle.
Solution
1. Close MediaRecorder.
2. Download the hardware key driver installer from: https://noldus.sharefile.eu/public/share/web-sd730662f214c41be82342b3d69043e38
3. Run or double-click the downloaded file to install the driver.
4. Once installation completes, plug the dongle into a USB port.
5. Launch MediaRecorder. The license should now be detected automatically from the dongle.
Note: A hardware dongle license does not require online activation. If MediaRecorder prompts for a license key code, verify the dongle is connected; do not attempt to enter the license number manually.
