Observer XT script error on launch in older versions (e.g., v14.2)
Last updated: Oct 29, 2026
Problem
Observer XT displays a script error dialog immediately on launch when opened via the desktop shortcut, preventing normal startup.
Details
Reported for Observer XT version 14.2 (Coder License). Version 14 is no longer fully supported by Noldus. Script errors on launch in older versions are typically caused by compatibility issues with the current Windows environment, missing runtime components, or deprecated scripting dependencies that are no longer maintained.
Solution
1. Note that Observer XT version 14 is no longer fully supported. Noldus strongly recommends upgrading to the current version via a NoldusCare upgrade to receive full support and compatibility with modern Windows environments.
2. As an interim step, check the Noldus support portal (my.noldus.com) for any available FAQs, knowledge base articles, or documentation for version 14 that may address the specific script error.
3. Ensure the Windows environment meets the minimum requirements for Observer XT 14 and that no recent Windows updates have removed required components (e.g., specific Visual C++ redistributables or scripting runtimes).
4. Try running Observer XT as Administrator (right-click the shortcut > Run as Administrator) to rule out permission-related script failures.
5. If the error persists and upgrading is not immediately possible, contact Noldus Support with the exact text of the script error for further diagnosis. Note that response times for legacy versions may be longer than for current supported versions.
