Observer XT software-based license (SBLK) deactivation required before use on a different computer
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
A user tries to activate or use their Observer XT software-based license (SBLK) on a different computer but cannot, because the license is still active on another machine.
Details
Affects Observer XT software-based (SBLK) licenses. Unlike USB dongles which can be physically moved, SBLK licenses are tied to the computer they were activated on. A license cannot be used on a second computer while still active on the first. This can also happen after a Windows update disrupts software license identification on the original computer.
Solution
1. Identify which computer currently has the SBLK license activated.
2. On that computer, open Observer XT and go to Help > License Management (or the equivalent license/activation menu) and choose to deactivate the license. Alternatively, contact Noldus support to remotely deactivate the license key if the original computer is inaccessible.
3. Once deactivated, activate the license key on the new or intended computer by entering the license key in the Observer XT activation dialog.
4. If a Windows update has disrupted license recognition on the original computer, deactivation by Noldus support (remotely) may be required before reactivation is possible.
5. Note: only one SBLK activation can be active at a time per license key. If you need concurrent use on multiple computers, additional licenses are required.
