Tobii eye-tracking devices appear as 'disabled' when triggered through Observer XT
Last updated: Nov 01, 2026
Problem
Tobii devices connected via N-Linx show as 'Online' in the N-Linx agent but appear as 'disabled' in the Observer XT device trigger list and cannot be connected.
Details
Affects Observer XT setups using Tobii eye trackers integrated via N-Linx. The issue occurs when the incorrect connection option is selected in Observer XT's device configuration. Selecting 'Lab control' instead of 'Proxy' for Tobii devices prevents the connection from being established.
Solution
1. In Observer XT, go to the device/trigger configuration for your Tobii device.
2. Ensure the connection option is set to 'Proxy' — do not select 'Lab control' for Tobii devices.
3. If 'Lab control' is currently selected, switch it to 'Proxy' and attempt to connect again.
4. Confirm the N-Linx agent is reporting as 'Online' for the relevant computers before attempting to trigger from Observer XT.
